Medical Fraternity & Public Figure Interventions
Resident Doctors' Associations (RDA) of AIIMS Delhi and Safdarjung Hospital submitted formal representations to President Droupadi Murmu, urging an independent inquiry into police lathi charges and asserting that hospitals must remain places of healing, not extensions of law enforcement detention. Opposition leaders (Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, Shashi Tharoor) and NDA ally Chirag Paswan condemned the police action, while artist Diljit Dosanjh publicly backed the students' demands.
'Sansad Chalo' Parliament March & Security Crackdown
On the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session, over 1,00,000 students carrying national flags and Constitution copies attempted to march from Jantar Mantar to Sansad Bhavan. Police deployed tear gas, lathi charges, water cannons, electrified barricades, and a mobile internet shutdown in central Delhi. The crackdown left 118+ police personnel and 60-70+ student protesters injured (including pellet injuries, head trauma, and one student on ventilator at RML Hospital). Gurdwara Bangla Sahib provided emergency shelter to fleeing demonstrators.
Sonam Wangchuk's 21-Day Hunger Strike & Hospitalization Dispute
Ladakhi environmentalist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk joined the Jantar Mantar protest on June 28, declaring an indefinite hunger strike alongside student leaders Neha Bora (AISA President), Adarsh M. Saji (SFI), Aishe Ghosh, and student activists. By day 19, Wangchuk lost 9.1 kg. On July 18, Delhi Police forcibly moved him to Safdarjung Hospital on High Court orders, triggering further hunger strikes by Dipke and student leaders. On July 21, the Delhi High Court permitted his transfer to Medanta Hospital.
Rise of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)
Founded by digital strategist Abhijeet Dipke after Supreme Court CJI remarks comparing unemployed youth to 'cockroaches', CJP evolved from political satire into a massive youth-led movement. Joining forces with SFI, AISA, and AISF at Jantar Mantar, CJP issued a 5-point exam manifesto demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, ₹10,000 leak compensation, and independent exam oversight.
